5/31/10 - Monday - Culture Infusion

So, today or tonight to be more accurate we went to see cousin Julie in an amateur production.

We met up at Bobbe's house where I "appropriated" some pictures from the wedding and the trip to Greece, hung out for a bit and head to the theater. Bobbe dropped us off and went to pickup a couple of bouquets of flower for after the performance. Went in, got situated, found the rest of the relatives, John, Rena and Theodoros. Julie had provided tickets in the 2nd row (first row was empty). Wow! We were VIPs.

The play was written by Sergi Belbel Link2. Originally called Després de la pluja ("After the rain") in Spanish, it was translated to Greek an titled Tsigaro stin Taratsa ("Cigarette on the roof"). In short, it's a play on the roof of an office block where the workers go to smoke and carry on intrigues. It was funny, poignant and overall entertaining. I understood about 90% of the jokes, which is not bad after all these years.

During intermission I enjoyed an adult beverage (Carlsberg) and it was delicious.

Here are some pictures of the play. Julie is the one in the flaming red hair and loud black pants.

This guy was hilarious.

After the play, we mingled with the cast, gave her flowers, and beamed at the performances. They were all quite good.

After the play, we left Bobbe's house and looked around for something to eat. Finally found a place that was open late in Kato Lakatamia and ordered souvlakia to go. I don't know if I was that hungry, but these were the best souvlakia I've had in Cyprus to date. I may have to go back and investigate further. Purely for journalistic purposes...

That's all for now... Stay tuned...
