Drove thru Mazurah with nothing exceptional happening.
I find that part of I70 is a toll road. I was shocked. Cost me a total of $2.15. Got change and a receipt.
Kansas (or Can's Ass as a trucker referred to it) is NOT flat! I mostly saw gently rolling hills. Complete flatness didn't begin until I rolled into Colorado.
Driving along I70 (still in KS), I run across this a wind farm. How neat is that?
These things are huge! In case you're wondering how huge, here's a video...
Somebody's drinking the milkshake
I'm driving on I70 and about 20 miles out of Limon, I feel the car being buffeted by strong winds from the north. I mean it's strong enough not only to blow tumbleweeds across the highway, it actually pushes the car into the other lane.
I exit to get fuel and remove the tumbleweeds from the grill. I get out and the wind almost knocks me over. I had to hold on to the car door not to become a tumbleweed myself- and I'm no lightweight. The lady in the gas station says there's a tornado warning. There was a couple from Oklahoma (they know storms there) sitting out the storm at the gas station...
I fill up, take care of bidness, buy a banana and hightail it outta there to beat the storm.
I don't know if the storm chasers were in the area.
Here are a couple of "evil" cloud pics from the fuel depot.
Arrived and checked in at the bed for the evening and drove around Denver to check things out. Saw Invesco field, (It's way prettier than our stadium) and other sights - also breathed a little hard. Dang dear froze my butt off. Gonna be in the mid 40's tonight.
Random Thoughts
- I'm a little disturbed by all the white tail deer I saw on the side of the today. 16 total. Mike Rowe needs to give the roadkill collector dude a call.
- Next time I visit Denver, I'm bringing a jacket and some long pants.
- Finally much livestock! Holsteins, Angus, Jerseys, Bison, Oh my!
- Left 3276 + herd of ~ 300 bison (big BONUS), Right 2873 + 4 raccoons and 1 elk (small bonus)
- Listening to: I am Legend and other Vampire Stories by Richard Matheson, Squeeze, Rush.
