5/03/10 – Monday – Artemis hiking path

5/03/10 – Monday – Artemis hiking path

So, today, I decided to REALLY get some walking in. Cousin Bobbe gave me a book on nature trails and recommended a few. I picked the Artemis trail in the Troodos mountains.

At a distance of about 8Km (5 miles) and hight of 1850M (6100ft) it looked like a nice walk. Packed up the beast with an walking stick (old broom handle) and my new hat and headed up. Took about 50 minutes to get there. Stopped on the way to get a sammich (lountza/halloumi tomato) and at half on the way. Parked the beast and headed out. Caught up with a group of Brits on the path who are in their own words "walking around Cyprus". Enjoyed chatting them up and declined the offer for lunch at the local trout farm.

I've been thinking how best to describe the views, but I'm sort of at a loss. So, here they are. Make up your own minds. I had a great time communing with nature, and didn't even mind if any got on me. More pics are available if anyone wants them. Of special note below are in no particular order:

  • Tree struck by lightning
  • Butterfly I had to chase for 10 minutes
  • 500 Year old black pine

Cousin Christos called and we had a nice dinner at a local pub of salty meats and cheeses along with a few brews. Met an expat friend of his from Thailand. Had a wonderful time. Hope to repeat soon.

Random thoughts:

  • I'm really glad I bought that new hat in Protaras a couple of days ago.

That's all for now... Stay tuned...
